The Wheels

E371's was originally built as a 2-4-2 tank engine before being re-built as an 0-6-2 tank engine in 1898
The locomotive has 5' 0" wheels, which are only sightly smaller than those found on a D3 class locomotive, which has 5' 1" wheels. Our K and J class locomotives have 4’ 7” wheels.
E371's wheels have been assessed as being in good condition, with the main work to be undertaken being re-profiling of the tyres and overhauled axle-boxes and springs. These are all tasks that we would have anticipated with any restoration.
